Islam [اسلام] - submission
Salam [سلام] - well-being, peace Aslam [اسلم] - to submit Istaslama [استسلاما] - to surrender |
The word "Islam" derived from "istaslama," which means to surrender. Even though there is a common misconception that it also derives from the same root as "Al-salaam," (peace), it actually only derives from "istaslama," meaning "submission to Allah" at all times, through peace, war, ease, or difficulty.
